Hello I just wanted to know if you are wet sanding your car with 3000 grit, at what point do you know that you cut through the clear coat and your own the base paint? Also if you finished sanding and you polished all the scratches off, having the paint back to its shiny like new appearance, does that mean you did not cut through the clear coat?

I picked up some sand paper which has made everywhere smooth but it doesn't seem to be taking off any layers to get rid of the tiny dimples/holes. Am i using the wrong type of paper?
